There is a chronic shortage of Gardai in Athlone.
That's according to the Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council Aengus O' Rourke.
The local representative has a sought an urgent meeting with the newly appointed Chief Supt of the Meath/Westmeath Garda Division to highlight his concerns.
He says he is in undated from the public in relation to anti-social behavior and is calling for more gardai to be stationed in the midlands town.
The Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council says that garda members have approached him over their frustration over the lack of gardai.
"Personally I know the men and women who are working as a gardai members in the station and they are as frustrated as I am, in fact they are coming to my clinics complaining that at times there are four gardai in our new state of the arts barracks and also at times there are more garda patrol cars than there is gardai members in the station."
