The court heard that the digger was driven a short distance at around 2mph before being discovered at the rear of a property a few days later.

Two men wanted in connection with the assault left the country following the incident

Thomas Sweeny received disfiguring facial scaring following the attack in 2019.

The jury returned a verdict of guilty on all charges related to the incident in December 2018.

The victim reportedly received wounds to his face, chest, arm and back.

The trial begins at Longford Circuit Criminal Court tomorrow.
