A Leitrim Councillor is calling for the establishment of a civil rights organisation to defend the public against what he says is council neglect. Councillor Des Guckian made the call as part of his motion to support a number of local authority tenants in the county dealing with mould and damp. The Independent representative has described those living in the affected properties as having a death sentence hanging over them. He's urged the council to move those in the situation to alternative accommodation immediately.
Local Authority Staff stated they could not discuss individual tenancies but would ask to housing department to prioritise a solution. Unhappy with the council's response, Councillor Guckian has called for the formation of a civil rights campaign:
