Independent Councillor Laurence Fallon was reacting to news that a planning application would be made this week.

They involve a temporary pipeline and pumping solution, to prevent homes around Lough Funshinagh being flooded this winter.

A Roscommon councillor says some villages are currently 'unsustainable' due to a lack of investment.

Cllr Laurence Fallon said the Taoiseach chaired a recent meeting which sought to find a temporary solution to flooding at the turlough.

Tánaiste Micheál Martin visited Lough Funshinagh yesterday and met residents impacted by the flooding in Ballagh, Rahara and Curraghboy.

Minister for the OPW Kieran O'Donnell confirmed the news to local residents during a visit to South Roscommon this afternoon.

Roscommon County Council has closed the main Curraghboy to Athleague road while pumps are working around the clock to hold water back.

The Independent councillor said water levels were now higher than they were in 2021 and local homes were in extreme danger.
