It's understood that the Bank of Ireland branch in Elphin will close this September.
Local customers have been informed that the bank will be shutting its premises in the Roscommon town this autumn with the withdrawal and deposit services to be handled by the town's post office.
However, locals are concerned that no external ATM will be available outside of normal businesses hours for cash transactions in the town, with similar fears being expressed over the loss of bank link machines in other towns such as Drumshanbo and Granard who are also facing branch closures this year.
Elphin resident Deirdre says it will could be hard for the post office to cope with all the extra footfall it will experience once the bank closes.
