The co-ordinator of the relief effort for Ukrainian refugees at the Cuisle Centre in Roscommon has praised the response of local groups and individuals.
Short notice was given to people on Friday that it was hoped to accommodate up to 100 people at the former holiday centre in Donamon.
Just over 60 people have so far arrived at the centre comprised so far of mainly women, and teenage boys and girls.
The centre could be open for some months and it's hoped that some families will be able to move into other accommodation making place for others who may still be fleeing their country in the weeks ahead.
Adrian Leddy says the response from the local community has been massive, with literally hundreds turning out to help make the centre habitable.
