The Garda Commissioner says Detective Garda Colm Horkan was hard-working, community-focused and brave.
Two plaques in memory of the 49 year old have been unveiled in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, where he was shot dead a year ago.
Commissioner Drew Harris and Minister of State James Browne joined his family at a ceremony in the town earlier.
