The Garda Commissioner has been criticised over comments he made regarding the suspension of a Westmeath-based Garda. The Garda in question was recently reinstated following a three-year suspension for giving a pensioner a bike during Covid. He was cleared of any wrong-doing recently following a four-year investigation. Addressing the Committee of Public Accounts this week, Commissioner Harris claimed the public didn't know all the facts.
However, the solicitor representing the Garda in question accused the Commissioner of muddying the waters following the investigation. Damien Tansey of Damien Tansey Solicitors said he has been instructed to write to Commissioner Harris regarding the comments. Speaking to the Joe Finnegan Show, the Sligo-based solicitor said the episode had added to the Garda's anguish:
