The appointment of a community warden for Longford will ensure the town is a cleaner and safer place to live and visit.
That's according to Cathoairleach Peggy Nolan, who says the warden will take up duty in June of this year.
The appointment is part of a one year pilot programme and the steward will have to power to issue fines for littering and parking offences.
Speaking on Let's Talk earlier today Councillor Nolan says she's hopeful it will give people more confidence to come into the town but insists the community must engage appropriately.
''It's very positive move. I believe it's the right move, totally supported by all of the Councillors in our municipal district. I believe if the public, now is their chance to engage with somebody who is there on a roll over contract, if this works, this can have a lasting and meaningful effect on what's happening in our town.''
