A Leitrim TD is calling for a compensation package to be put in place for farmers and foresters affected by the Shass Mountain Landslide near Drumkeerin.
The discharge occurred in June 2020 and despite the setting up of a multi agency team to assist locals, Deputy Marian Harkin says no progress has been made almost 20 months later.
Speaking in the Dail, The Sligo TD along with Roscommon deputy Michael Fitzmaurice called on the Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue to commit to a date as to when a compensation scheme will be opened.
In response, Sean Fleming on behalf of the Minister stated those affected would continue to receive their basic farm payments despite the land being unsuitable for agricultural use.
Deputy Harkin says a payment package similar to other areas is required and clarity for farmers is urgently needed.
