Conerns are being raised about asylum seekers being housed in tented accommodation in Athlone.
176 asylum seekers are due to move into a tented village alongside a direct provision centre near Lissywollen today.
However, there is no date set for when they will be moved to more permanent accommodation.
Nick Henderson, chief executive of the Irish Refugee Council, says tented accommodation doesn't meet people's 'basic needs'.
''Emergency accommodation must meet somebody's basic needs and be used for a shorter period as possible we don't think tented accommodation as is currently used and until the end of the autumn we understand it meets those two requirements.''
