Michael Fitzmaurice says the Commissioner should be much more heavily involved in the issues that are facing ordinary people

Roscommon Galway Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says he's concerned the government has "side lined" the Just Transition Commissioner Kieran Mulvey.

The Independent TD says that Mr Mulvey was brought in in a media frenzy last year as the man who would ensure that people adversely affected by Bord Na Mona's move away from peat production would be given time to make other arrangements, but little has been heard of him since the announcement of funding for various projects last year.

Michael Fitzmaurice says the Commissioner is a highly respected and experienced individual and he should be much more heavily involved in the issues that are continuing to face ordinary people.

The TD says he can't understand why Mr Mulvey hasn't been brought into the new Peat Consultation group, or been asked to get involved in the row over turf cutting which has emerged in the last week.
