Minister Helen McEntee says garda numbers in Roscommon Longford have increased in recent years, but probably not at the pace that people would like.
The Justice Minister was responding to concerns expressed by the Garda Representative Association about the lack of resources to deal with violent incidents in Longford.
The Minister was on a visit to Longford yesterday where she met with officials from the Irish Prison Service and senior garda representatives.
She also met with Longford Comhairle Na n-Og to hear their views on policing and justice.
Speaking to Shannonside FM news Minister McEntee said there is a major drive to increase garda numbers, and target areas which show a need for more gardaí.
