Leitrim County Council is being urged to improve road and footpath surfaces, after over 200,000 euro was paid out in insurance claims last year. It was paid by the local authority's insurers, Irish Public Bodies, due to claims made against the council.
Over 197,000 euro related to footpaths, slips and trips, while there were also motor and pothole settlements. Sinn Fein councillor Brendan Barry, from Drumshanbo, says the figures are worrying:
