Councillor Domnick Connolly is calling for a complete reorganisation of Fine Gael in Roscommon, after failing to win a Dáil seat for the third general election in a row. It's now 13 years since they won a Dáil seat in the county, when Denis Naughten and Frank Feighan were elected in Roscommon-South Leitrim in 2011. The closure of Roscommon's A&E that year was a major blow to the party locally.
Senator Aisling Dolan and Dympna Daly-Finn were unsuccessful candidates for Fine Gael in Roscommon-Galway at the weekend. Councillor Connolly says the party needs to be rebuilt in Roscommon:
Senator Dolan finished in fourth place in the three-seat constituency at the weekend. Councillor Connolly believes the Ballinasloe woman was at a disadvantage because she was on the edge of the constituency. He says Castlerea councillor Gareth Scahill would be better positioned to run the next time:
