Construction work will start next year on over 50 council homes in Monksland. It's one of several housing developments Roscommon County Council is currently progressing around the county. According to council management, 51 homes will be developed in Sli an Choiste in Monksland. The project is expected to go to planning by the end of this year, allowing construction to start next year. It's the largest housing development on the council's horizon, but several smaller social housing projects are also progressing. Building work has just started on 16 homes in Curlew View in Boyle, which are expected to be finished by next September.
The council is building four homes at Elphin Courthouse, and they are also due to be finished around the same time. A modular home in Dysart will be finished by the end of this year, along with eight homes in Athleague, and two on the Old Tuam Road in Monksland. In Strokestown, three homes are being built on Elphin Street, Strokestown, with construction under way in the past few months. Other projects include four homes in Cortober, Carrick-on-Shannon, which are due to be finished by next September. The council will be hoping these projects will help to reduce its social housing waiting list, which currently stands at 336.
