Consultants at Sligo University hospital have written to the Taoiseach to highlight their concerns about overcrowding and equipment at the facility.
The Dail has heard that one senior consultant, who has worked at the northwest facility for 17 years, claimed that they has never seen demand so high or morale so low.
The Dail has heard that 34 consultants at the main hospital serving people in Leitrim and Sligo have written to the Taoiseach to express concerns at overcrowding and concerns over their impact on patients.
The hospital has been under significant pressure this winter and is regularly one of the most overcrowded facilities in the country according to the INMO's daily trolley watch.
The Dail heard that consultants had met with the Minister for Health on Monday evening, and that over €30m of extra funding had been allocated to the hospital in recent years
The Saolta hospital group has been contacted for a comment.
