A special ceremony will take place at mass in Castlerea on this Sunday to mark the contribution of well-known former postman and County Councillor Danny Burke to the church.
The popular community activist has been involved in the annual diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes for many years, as well as being involved with the local Brass and Reed Band and the local GAA club.
He will be presented with the Bene Merenti Medal by Bishop Kevin Doran during a ceremony at the 12 noon mass in the town on Sunday.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Danny says after suffering ill health himself in younger years, he has always tried to give back by helping out with pilgrimages to Lourdes and Knock.
"I had a lot of illness in my time, since I was 18 years of age, I had two major surgeries, but I like to put something back into it because Lourdes and Knock has done an awful lot for me and the people that have prayed for me and all that".
