Planning permission has been granted for a significantly sized wind turbine near Edgeworthstown in Longford.
The plans which have generated controversy amongst local residents, were submitted by Natural Forces Renewable Energy Ltd for a site at Lissanore near the town.
The applicant has been approved to construct a wind energy converter on a tower with a blade tip height of close to 150 metres.
Included in the application are the installation of the 81 metre tower, hard stand area, underground cables and sub station building.
The plans have been the focus of strong opposition locally, with a significant number of submissions made to Longford County Council.
These have highlighted concerns such as shadow flicker, noise, property devaluation and the effect the development may have on the local bird population.
In granting the application, Longford County Council set down 16 conditions for the developer to abide by.
