A controversial parade in commemoration of legendary Leitrim republican John Joe McGirl is taking place in Ballinamore this evening.
It starts from The Square at 8 o'clock and makes its way down to the McGirl monument at the other end of the town.
The Aughnasheelin native was a councillor, TD and vice-president of Sinn Fein, as well as chief of staff of the IRA in 1958.
Sinn Fein TD Martin Kenny says he was held in high esteem in Leitrim and supports the parade.
The parade will feature an oration by Sinn Fein MP John Finucane, whose father, Pat, was shot dead by loyalist paramilitaries in 1989.
Family members of Private Patrick Kelly, who was killed during the Don Tidey kidnapping, have objected to the walk.
Kelly and Garda Gary Sheehan were killed during the rescue mission of the supermarket executive near Ballinamore in 1983.
It's alleged McGirl was involved with the Provisional IRA, who carried out the kidnapping.
Deputy Kenny has addressed the controversy over the event this year.
