New draft Waterways Ireland bye-laws are being branded as a stealth tax on recreational boaters.
A local group are due to address the Dáil Committee on Housing, Local Government and Heritage today, which has responsibility for the organisation.
Local waterways users are calling on the body to rethink the bye-laws, which they say will see a reduction in boats, visitors and overnight stays in the region.
The by-laws would include the reduction of mooring times, removal of winter mooring and a tax on businesses operating on the Shannon.
Waterways Ireland will host a public consultation meeting will take place this evening in the Mullingar Park Hotel from 6pm.
