Contracts have been signed to retain the provider of services at a major fitness centre and swimming pool in Longford Town.
Located in the Albert Reynolds Peace Park, the facility holds a 25 metre swimming pool, sports hall, gym and other services.
Contracts signed today will see Coral Leisure retain management and operation of the centre for the next five years.
Local Councillor Gerry Warnock, who's on the management board of the park, says the service is in good hands with the current operator.
Speaking to Shannonside FM News, Councillor Warnock says the local authority has seen many benefits having a private operator running the site:
'We were spending up to €300,000 per year just to keep the doors open.
I've always made the argument that we've always needed a premium product in order to bridge that gap and keep it going.
Thankfully we are now at a breakeven situation there in Longford County Council, so that's €250,000 to €300,000 we can use to spend on other public services around the county.'
