More cost effective options need to be made available to people to heat their homes to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels.
That's the view of Liquid Gas Ireland's Policy Director, Phillip Hannon. His comments come following the release of new data that shows over 75% of households across Longford and Roscommon are still reliant on high carbon fuels for home heating. 20% of homes in Roscommon are still dependent on peat, making the county the second highest user of this source in the country. Longford Town was also among the worst performing towns across the country in last year's EPA report for air quality.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Phillip Hannon says there are alternatives to high carbon fuels but they need to be affordable.
