Longford County Council has approved the transfer of 19 local authority homes in Granard to a social housing association.
The homes in the Colmcille Estate in the North Longford town will be transferred to the Tuath Housing Association.
Set up in 2000, the group manages social homes across the country for over 24, 000 residents.
The move has been welcomed by local residents according to a local councillor.
Turlough McGovern says locals were consulted during the process and have not expressed concerns over the move:
''We've been working on this, it came out in 2018 that there was nearly 6 million to be spent on Colmcille Terrace. And there was no movement on it since and the pressure has been on for the last year and a half since I was elected and we're talks and it's been signed over and Tuath is taking charge so we're hoping to get started early in the new year but look the people is quite happy and we have engaged with them all the time with Tuath we had several meetings with them.''
