Material discovered in a west Roscommon lake last weekend has been confirmed as tree pollen and not paint. Roscommon County Council says it carried out an inspection of Lough Eritt following a number of complaints. Local MEP Luke Ming Flanagan had previously raised concerns that paint had been spilled into the lake.
In a statement to Shannonside News this afternoon, Roscommon County Council said it wished to allay any fears locally. It added that the prevailing dry and calm weather conditions had allowed pollen to accumulate in sheltered areas. Roscommon County Council thanked the public for raising their concerns over the weekend and said community engagement was an integral part of protecting the environment.
