Leitrim County Council is proposing to carry out significant redevelopment works in a local town. The authority has issued a site notice outlining a number of projects it plans to carry out in Drumshanbo. Leitrim County Council is bringing forward plans to demolish parts of vacant buildings on Main Street in the town, namely the former Bank of Ireland and a commercial building formerly known as 'Earley's'. The demolition would then facilitate the erection of a two-storey extension to link both buildings to provide commercial use to the ground floor and a new smart working service.

The project also comprises of the creation of a new pedestrian walkway, a car park and new public lighting. The redevelopment also consists of the partial reconstruction of two derelict outbuildings to the east of the Drumshanbo River to provide commercial use. Additionally, riverside and town park improvement works and riverside walkways will be undertaken to enhance the existing 'People's Park', as well as a new footbridge which will connect the river to the town and the Drumshanbo Methodist Church. Submissions and observations with respect to the development can be sent in to county planners by the 26th of January.
