44 Leitrim County Council staff were paid a total of over €60,000 for work associated with the local elections count last month. According to Freedom of Information figures. security staff were paid €5,000. The count for the local elections took place in the Landmark Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon on June 8th. Ballot boxes were opened at 9 o'clock that morning and the last of the 18 councillors were elected 20 hours later.
44 Leitrim County Council staff were involved in the count, and in preparing the venue in the days leading up to it. The total cost for these staff members was €60,338 - an average of almost €1,400. The council hired a section of the Landmark from Wednesday, June 5th, to Monday, June 10th, and this cost over €19,400. Catering costs for council staff on June 8th cost just over €3,000. Security staff were employed for 20 hours and 30 minutes, costing €5,000.
