An application for new safety measures at one of Roscommon's worst blackspots will be submitted to Transport Infrastructure Ireland shortly.
That's according to Sinn Fein TD Claire Kerrane who says traffic lights are urgently needed at the junction in Frenchpark.
Earlier this week, Gardai attended the scene of a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus and car at the busy crossroads.
While no injuries were reported, Deputy Kerrane believes action should have been taken much sooner at this location.
The Sinn Fein TD says Roscommon County Council are currently finalising a submission which will be forwarded to the TII for funding later this year.
''It was confirmed to me by the Engineering Department at Roscommon County Council just this week that they have almost finalised the feasibility study they were asked to do by the TII that will now go to the TII for consideration for funding this year. So while it's taken a long time, we have come a long way in relation to traffic lights and I hope now that this will at long last be resolved, we will get the traffic lights and the junction will be made safe.''
