Rose Gibney was found dead in her vehicle following a road near-crash near Lisryan at the end of June.

Longford County Council will wait for the forensic report from the Gardai before deciding if road safety measures need to be installed near where a woman was killed in a road crash recently.

Westmeath native Rose Gibney lost her life in a crash near Lisryan in late June after her car left the road at a bend on the Castlenugent road and was found several hours later partially submerged in water.

A motion at this month's meeting of Granard Municipal District urged the Council to install a crash barrier on the bend where the crash took place.

However, a Council engineer told the meeting that it would be "premature" to do anything at the site of the crash until they had obtained the garda forensic report on the incident.

It was explained that once the report was given to the council, the local authority would then act on any recommendations which may be contained within it.

A vote of sympathy for Ms Gibney, who was from Castlepollard, was passed by the meeting.
