A Leitrim Councillor is calling on Vodafone Ireland to communicate with local residents over network issues in some parts of the county.
Enda McGloin claims there's been a significant loss of signal in the Newtowngore area in recent weeks and he believes the company must now explain how the service diminished overnight
He says customers in Leitrim continue to pay monthly bills for an in-adequate service and Vodafone must respond to concerns.
The local representative raised the issue at this months meeting of Ballinamore MD and the council have now voted to contact the firm for a response.
''Nowadays a lot of people tend to have just the mobile signal. A lot of people don't have landlines in their house. It's of a serious annoyance for a lot of people who are Vodafone customers. For example, a farmer who's out tending to stock away and gets into some medical difficulties, the first thing you turn to is the mobile phone in your pocket. I just believe that a company like Vodafone with the resources it has could easily remedy the situation. And as I say it is an important issue, especially in relation to public safety.''
