Records showing over eleven hundred cancelled appointments at Roscommon Hospital last year do not tell the full story according to a local councillor.
The Covid pandemic resulted in elective procedures being cancelled across the country due to the strain on the health service.
Councillor Valerie Byrne has disputed the nature of figures released by the Soalta Hospital group at yesterday's Health Forum West meeting.
According to the hospital group, there were 1,128 hospital initiated cancellations at the Roscommon hospital in 2021.
Councillor Byrne says that hospital procedure means that short term postponements are classed as full cancellations, and that many procedures go ahead within a week of the original cancellation.
