A Longford Councillor is calling for the installation of CCTV cameras along key points of the Grand Canal in the town following reports of anti-social behaviour on the route.
Gardaí have been called to several instances of large groups reportedly drinking, littering and harassing amenity users over the last number of weeks.
Councillor Gerry Warnock, who lives alongside the canal, has heavily criticised those involved and has called for swift action to be taken.
The Independent Councillor is to bring forward a motion to an upcoming meeting of the Longford County Councillor to have CCTV systems installed in the area.
According to Councillor Warnock, the deployment of cameras to trouble spots on the route will aid Gardaí in effectively policing the area.
