A Longford councillor says people in the county town are being intimidated by the use of scooters travelling at speed on footpaths.
Councillor Martin Monaghan has put forward a motion with Seamus Butler which calls for the banning of all bicycles, quad bikes, and scooters from footpaths in the town.
He says older people going and coming from shops are being harassed by these scooters which travel at speed and it's up to the Municipal District to make the area safe for people who come into the town.
The Fianna Fail councillor says he received a torrent of abuse in recent days when he asked a scooter user to take it off the footpath.
He says while gardai already have a good policy on the issue, bye-laws will strengthen their hand…
