A Longford councillor is welcoming plans for traffic lights to be put in place at a mini roundabout on the outskirts of Longford town.
Work at the roundabout at the junction of the Battery Road and the Lisbrack Road in Longford is due to begin in the autumn of this year.
Local councillor Peggy Nolan who lives in the Demense housing estate nearby says she has bene calling for safety measure sot be taken at the intersection of the past 8 years.
The Fine Gael representatives says the increase in the development of the area for housing and other issues has led to a very dangerous situation at the junction.
Responding to some concerns that the traffic lights could lead to delays in the area Councillor Nolan says while the solution might not suit everyone it's something she feels is needed for safety.
''It took 8 long years to get it to where it is and it has full support of the roads directorate in the council. People constantly asking for something to be done and now it's being done and anybody that doesn't like it, I won't apologise, I will err on the side of caution and safety.''
