The number of power outages over the last month across Leitrim is unacceptable according to local Councillors.
At a meeting of the Carrick On Shannon Municipal District today, local representatives expressed their displeasure with several short term power cuts in the last number of weeks.
Councillor Des Guckian warned that many cafes and restaurants are bearing the brunt of the outages when it came to losing power to cold food storage equipment.
In a motion to the meeting, the Independent Councillor urged the local authority to contact the ESB for assurances that local electricity supply and infrastructure would be priortised in the future to avoid any blackouts.
The issue received widespread support from Councillors, with many sharing their own accounts of recent power faults.
Speaking to Shannonside FM news outside of the meeting this morning, Councillor Guckian said that increasing energy bills should at least mean a reliable service.
We're asking that our council officials will write off to the ESB and point out that there are awful problems arising out of their failures in providing a consistent supply in our area.
I gather its not just in Annaduff and Drumsna, but in Dromod and other areas, so the ESB is clearly at fault.
They will not give compensation to anyone.
They talk about smart metering , by god they best get a bit smart themselves
