Councillors in the Longford Municipal District are calling for an urgent meeting to clarify reports over the housing of international protection applicants in a Longford premises.
In a statement issued this evening the councillors say they have grave concerns regarding the issue.
They are now seeking an urgent meeting with the Chief Executive of Longford County Council.
The letter released is signed by Cathaoirleach Gerry Hagan, and Councillors John Browne, Peggy Nolan, Gerry Warnock, Seamus Butler, Martin Monaghan and Uruemu Adejinmi.
Councillor Seamus Butler says while the country has a duty to accommodate asylum seekers, clarification is needed.
'We have an international duty to accommodate international protection and we feel that if its spread equally throughout the county we don't have a problem with it so until we have the clarification form the CEO and senior management hopefully on Monday we'll know more. Concerns have been raised because there was no consultation on this so we hope to bring that forward with management.''
