A Leitrim councillor is calling for additional rail services between Longford and Sligo.
The call comes as the Ministers for Transport in both the North and South undertake a national rail review later this month.
Cathaoirleach of Leitrim County Council Paddy O'Rourke says current train schedules don't facilitate those attending hospital appointments in Sligo and he is therefore asking that a mid-day service be considered.
He would also like to see the northern section of the western rail corridor between Sligo and Claremorris re-opened.
Councillor O'Rourke believes this would benefit the environment with more people using public transport.
