The 2024 general election counts have been adjourned across the Shannonside region.
Three TD’s have been elected to the 34th Dail in the three constituencies Longford-Westmeath, Sligo-Leitrim and Roscommon-Galway.
In Longford-Westmeath, Peter Burke topped the poll with 10,864 first preference votes exceeding the quota of 10,315. The count was adjourned until Sunday morning awaiting the distribution of Burke’s surplus.
The first count saw Fianna Fail’s Robert Troy and independent Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran odds to claim election. Michael Carrigy (FG) was also in a good position. However, the fifth seats looks like a battle between outgoing TD’s Sorca Clarke (SF) and Joe Flaherty (FF).
Independent Ireland's leader Michael Fitzmaurice topped the poll in Roscommon-Galway after the first count. Fitzmaurice received 12,002 first preference votes exceeding the quota of 10,283.
Fitzmaurice’s surplus has been disrupted with Independent Vincent Beirne excluded. Whereas, The count will resume with count four which sees the exclusion of Alan Sweeney (IP) and Martina O’Connor (GP).
Indeed, Claire Kerrane of Sinn Fein and Fianna Fail’s Martin Daly are in the driving seat to take the final two seats.
In Sligo-Leitirm, the count was adjourned after on declartation with no candidates meeting the quota of 11,381. Frank Feighan (FG) topped the poll with 8,980 votes followed by Martin Kenny with 7,764.
Whereas, the vote resumes on Sunday morning with the exclusion of Diarmuid MacConville (Ind), Caroline Corcoran (ind. Ireland) and Molly Candon (PAW).
