Strict visiting restrictions, ward closures and the elective surgeries have
been cancelled after an outbreak of Covid-19 in Cavan General Hospital.
Management at the hospital and the RCSI Hospitals Group are yet to comment
on the situation.
This outbreak was confirmed by Shannonside Northern Sound News yesterday afternoon.
Visiting restrictions had been put in place earlier this week after an
increasing number of cases in the region.
However, a number of staff, including nursing and admin staff, and patients
have since tested positive for the virus.
Others have been forced to self-isolate as they were in close contact.
A letter sent to GPs in the region yesterday said "appropriate measures" had
been put in place.
However, they were asked to only refer urgent cases to Cavan Hospital.
Neither the RCSI Hospitals Group nor management at Cavan Hospital have
commented on the outbreak.
