Creggs Rugby Club on the Roscommon Galway border was recently awarded €10,000 in the Aviva Broker Community Fund.
Creggs RFC was nominated by Aengus Oates, of Aengus Oates Financial Services.
The Fund provides an opportunity for financial advisers/brokers throughout the country to help support their local charities or community organisations that are making a difference in their area.
Now in its third year, the Aviva Broker Community Fund, which was launched last September, has a total fund of €100,000 to donate to worthwhile projects completed by charities and community organisations.
“We are delighted to receive this award of €10,000” said Aidan Farrell, President of Creggs Rugby Club.
“This injection of funds could not have come at a better time as we recently received planning permission to build four new dressing rooms and a gym”.
“Our Aviva Community Award will be spent on equipment for the new building that will include gym equipment which will be specific to people with disabilities.
“I would like to thank Aviva for their Community Awards Scheme with an amazing total fund of €100,000, this money will make a huge difference to us and to the other awards winners on the day. I also want to thank Aengus Oates of Aengus Oates Financial Services for nominating us”.
“We were deeply humbled to hear and see the amazing work that our winning charities and community organisations are involved with and the positive impact that they have on peoples’ lives” said Brian O’Neill, Head of Communications, Brand & Sponsorship at Aviva Ireland.
“We are only too aware of the additional demands on their services and the challenges that Covid-19 has brought to bear on all of them”.
“Aviva want to ensure our CSR program can continue to support the communities in which we operate, where our people work and where our customers live. We wish Creggs RFC continued success in all that they do within their community.”
“Creggs is so much more than a rugby club, it is a place that brings the local community together” said Aengus Oates.
”Whether you’re a member of the club or not, everyone in the community has access to our floodlit walkway surrounding the pitches”.
“This is a fantastic amenity for all the locals and allows them to feel a part of the Creggs family. Being on the border of Galway and Roscommon, our players can leave their friendly rivalries aside and become one team”.
“Looking forward, we have secured planning permission for new state of the art female dressing rooms, a further example of how we are working towards becoming an all-inclusive community club.”
The Aviva Broker Community Fund is making thirty separate donations, broken down as follows: - One charity donation of €20,000 to the best submission, plus four runner-up donations of €5,000 to the shortlisted charities. In addition, there were three local community organisation donations of €10,000 to the best submissions, plus two donations of €5,000 to those shortlisted community organisations.
Finally, €1,000 donated to 20 charities and community organisations drawn from the list of those entries not shortlisted.
