Justice Minister Helen McEntee says ensuring the safety of Gardaí and all other frontline workers has been one of her main priorities

The first quarter of this year had shown the highest numbers of incidents of assault, harassments and threats to kill in four years.

It's part of an investigation into the sale and supply of illegal drugs.

The call follows a number of criminal and security incidents over the last two weeks.

No one was injured in the incident and Gardaí have launched and investigation.

Two separate incidents were reported to Gardaí in Longford and Roscommon last week.

Investigations are ongoing.

It's claimed the Gardaí are about three decades behind comparable police services when it comes to equipment.
