Criticism is mounting over the delay facing the confirmation of a vaccine centre for Longford, with HSE experts currently examining a potential secondary site for the facility.
Longford Slashers GAA club was originally selected as the county's centre, along with 39 other locations chosen nationwide.
Concerns over infrastructure and accessibilty at the club grounds were highlighted following the selection, with the HSE Estates team and Longford county council working on plans to either perform emergency works on site or switch location completely.
Shannonside FM understands that officials have selected the Longford Rugby Club as a potential secondary site for the vaccine centre.
Plans originally put in place had called for vaccine distribution to begin this week, however, there is now no current start date for the Longford facility.
However a Longford GP is assuring the public that the current delay will not affect vaccine numbers locally.
According to Dr Paul Trueick, GP practices in Longford have sufficient capacity to enact current vaccine roll outs.
