Crowds are beginning to gather in Charlestown for the funeral mass of Detective Garda Colm Horkan.
Hundreds are set to line the route to the church ahead of the service which begins at midday.
The remains of Detective Garda Colm Horkan are to be brought from his family home to St James' Church in Charlestown for mass at noon.
Already dozens of gardaí, including members from Castlerea and the wider Shannonside Northern Sound region, are in the town to pay their respects to the 49-year-old killed last Wednesday night.
A minute's silence is to be observed at every Garda Station across the country at midday and the Peace Bell will also be rung by at Aras an Uachtarain.
Detective Horkan will be laid to rest following the funeral mass at the adjoining cemetery and Shannonside FM will have live coverage of the mass from 12pm today.
