190 Irish troops, many of which are based in the Shannonside region, have returned home this week from an international peace keeping mission.
Members of the 118th Infantry Battalion, including defence forces members from the Army, Navy and Air Force, returned from the Lebanon on Wednesday afternoon.
The unit, the majority of which is based at Custume Barracks in Athlone, have completed a six month deployment to South Lebanon as part of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL).
The 118th infantry Battalion worked as part of a multinational battalion, comprising of Irish, Maltese, Polish and Hungarian personnel, collectively referred to as IRISH-POL-BATT.
They've now been replaced on the peace keeping mission by the 119th Infantry Battalion based in Limerick and Cork.
