The Dáil has heard claims of people in West Roscommon who have been refused insurance when buying a home.
The issue centres around the future potential for flooding, despite the area not being near water or being flood-prone
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said he would look into the claims with the insurance regulator.
Independent Roscommon-Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice detailed an example from Ballaghadereen in Roscommon.
"This estate never had a problem with water, flooding, or anything. We checked with Roscommon County Council, never a problem. Lo and behold the insurance company just decided randomly to get a Dutch Company to look at this estate and some genius in a desktop exercise decided there may be a risk down the line. Now these people cannot get insurance".
