Fines for drivers who speed or use a mobile phone are set to double.
The new regulations, due to be brought in by the Junior Transport Minister, will see fixed penalty charges rise above 100 euro for the first time.
It comes as five people were killed on Irish roads over the weekend, bringing the total number of lives lost this year to 94.
61 new speed cameras will go live this morning, which will be spread across 23 counties, mostly on regional and national routes.
Junior Minister Hildegarde Naughton outlines which offences will be impacted:
I'll be doubling the fines for speeding offences from €80 to €160.
For people who are using mobile phones while driving from €60 to €120
Fines for people who are not wearing seat belts are also doubling
