The N4 Collooney to Castlebaldwin is set to open to traffic from today with an official opening due to take place at a later stage.
This new type 2 dual carriageway between Collooney and Castlebaldwin provides approximately 15km of new infrastructure on one of the busiest stretches of the northwest, with more than 30 people having lost their lives on the stretch in the past.
The 80 million euro project is one of the largest of its kind in the country, which aims to make the route safer and more efficient.
Other works will be ongoing until the end of September, including the construction of a roundabout in Castlebaldwin village and service crossings at the Toberbride roundabout.
Sligo County Council says these will have minimal disruption to the N4 national road traffic.
