Decision day on 5pc rates hike for Leitrim businesses

Leitrim councillors will decide today whether to increase commercial rates by 5 per cent next year.

Council management has made the controversial proposal but says the money would be spent on key infrastructure.

Councillors will decide whether to give the plan the go-ahead at their budget meeting this morning.

Fine Gael councillor Enda McGloin is a member of the coalition that controls the council - he's in favour of the increase.

Sinn Fein councillor Brendan Barry is against the increase.
