The future of the Lough Ree power plant site is set to be clarified this week as county planners are to decide on its demolition.
The ESB applied for permission to take the Lanesboro plant down earlier this year and replace it on site with a battery energy storage system.
Plans include the installation of the storage system and a Synchronous Condenser following the demolition of the substantial structure to ground level.
The planned demolition will include the boiler house, turbine house, bag filter house and associated 80 metre high stack among others.
Longford County Council planners will decide on the application this week.
