Members of the Defence forces assisted Gardai in a search of lands and waterways in Leitrim this week as part of the investigation into the murder of Patrick Heeran.
Officers from the 28th Infantry Battalion, which is based at the Finner camp in Donegal, deployed along with personnel from the Engineering Corp to support a coordinated search operation in the vicinity of Augahavas.
Gardai from Leitrim and Sligo, were also supported by the Garda Water Unit, and the Defence Forces in conducting a search in the region of Lake Aughavas.

The search was one of a series of planned searches which have taken place in connection with the murder of Patrick Heeran, who was last seen in Mohill, County Leitrim on Monday October 3, 2011.
Gardai were supported on the day by members of the Defence Forces who provided specialist engineering equipment, specialist search equipment, aerial capabilities, and specialist search personnel.
The operation was conducted between 7am and 7pm on Monday July 27, 2020 but it did not yield anything of significance to the ongoing investigation.
